FAQS
Q. Why should I get a massage?
A. The benefits of massage are endless. It provides relief to people from all walks of life - from the busy executive, to the wired small business owner, to stay at home parents - anyone can benefit from a session of massage.
Q. What should I do to prepare for my massage?
A. Prior to your appointment, drink extra water. Hydration is essential to a successful massage.
Q. What should I expect to experience after the massage?
A. Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from chronic pain issues that have developed from over use or improper use. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity which can last for days. It is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage, at least 2-3 extra glasses are recommended. It is possible to be sore after a session, especially if it is your first massage and you fail to drink plenty of water afterwards.
Q. Why is drinking extra water so important?
A. For a few reasons:
1. If you get a massage on a regular basis, it will improve the functioning of all your body’s systems. Primarily it boosts your circulatory system. This means that whatever “gunk” is in your body, like pollution in the air or chemicals in your food, is going around a lot faster. Water helps to flush this out.
2. Also, massage is the next best thing to working out and it does produce lactic acid!! Keeping these things in mind, more blood is flowing into your muscles and organs bringing more oxygen and nutrients. As well as taking away more lactic acid and other cell waste products. Hydrating helps your body cope with this.
Q. Are there any medical conditions that would prevent me from receiving a massage?
A. Yes! If you have an immediate concern, ask me when you make the appt. Before your initial massage, you will be filling out a health intake. This will give me all the info I need to make sure you have a healthy massage. There are some conditions where a massage is totally contraindicated, but in most cases, I just have to alter my methods. When making an appointment, please let me know all the medications you are taking so I can prepare.
Q. How often should I come for massage?
A. We will discuss a treatment plan that is appropriate for your goals. The effects of massage are felt within 24 hours. If your goal is to alleviate chronic pain or to speed up recovery from an injury, then the sessions need to be much closer together.
Some people come once a week for an hour, every other week for an hour, every other week for 90 minutes, or twice a week for 30 minutes each. A one hour session per month is usually used as a maintenance plan, after the “kinks” have been worked out. If you are coming for relaxation purposes, then it is only necessary when you feel the need.
Q. Should I arrive early to change?
A. It is best to arrive about 5 minutes prior to your scheduled time. This is so you can fill out necessary paperwork and that I may conduct a thorough intake for your session.
