Ergonomic Consulting
With the ergonomic education and advisement, I give my client the tools to improve and prevent further muscular injuries.
In today’s demanding workplace, many of us are information workers “chained” to our desks. The human body was not designed to sit in a chair for eight hours straight, hunched over a computer and keyboard. Many people have begun to suffer the unavoidable musculoskeletal problems and desk-related injuries that result from poor posture and body position.
A major part of the challenge is the lack of knowledge about what constitutes proper posture in the workplace. Melissa Steger, LMT, is an experienced massage therapist with excellent understanding of human anatomy, who has trained for 35 hours in ergonomics consulting.
Massage as treatment
It is critical for patients who are serious about treating and preventing their desk-related injuries to commit to a massage regimen along with ergonomics consulting. Massage helps to jumpstart healing by treating the injuries at their source; the muscles. Melissa will be able to understand your body’s particular needs and develop a safe workplace setup. She will also design a minor stretching routine for you during the day so the effects of your massage can be felt days after.
By incorporating massage into your fitness regimen, you can be assured that your muscles will ‘learn’ the correct way of moving, reducing risk of injury.
Prevention is key
Prevention is critical to maintaining excellent form and strong posture. By approaching your posture challenges with the two-pronged approach of massage and ergonomics management, you will increase your productivity, reduce time spent caring for any desk-related injuries and experience less stress as a result of both.
Melissa will provide:
•
Consulting on proper posture. Most ergonomic challenges are easily solved by changing the height of your chair, and distance you sit from your computer monitor. Many people are wary of spending extra money on fancy products that promise to solve your desk-related injuries. If Melissa recommends a product it is usually inexpensive and available at your local office supply store.
•
Consulting on your desk and workplace. Many clients simply email pictures to Melissa of them sitting at their workplace. This allows Melissa to get an accurate picture of where the inherent problems of the workplace setup may be causing the injuries.
•
Stretching regimen. This will be a simple set of stretching exercises to do throughout the day to prevent any further injuries or tightness.
If you are currently a client of Melissa, you can receive ergonomics consulting for $30.
